The Cape Coast Castle is photographed from above in Cape Coast, Ghana. Like many of the European castles in Ghana, or what was once known as the 'Gold Coast' Cape Coast Castle was established as Portuguese trading post in 1555. Although it would change hands many times in its history, the castle was originally built to facilitate the trade of timber and gold but would eventually be used in the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, sending slaves to the Americas.
